The French Riviera at half distance — sea, hills, and Promenade des Anglais
Nice, France · June 28, 2026
IRONMAN 70.3 Nice offers a taste of the legendary IRONMAN France Nice course at half distance. A Mediterranean swim in the Baie des Anges, a rolling to hilly bike into the arrière-pays, and a run along the iconic Promenade des Anglais. Nice has hosted world-class triathlon for decades — the course, the setting, and the atmosphere are proven.
Swim Course
The swim takes place in the Baie des Anges — the Bay of Angels — off the Nice seafront. This is open Mediterranean swimming with the potential for chop on windy days. Water temperatures in late June are around 20–23°C, potentially at the wetsuit/non-wetsuit boundary. The Promenade des Anglais provides a stunning backdrop, and the beach start and finish are a Nice triathlon tradition.
Bike Course
The bike course heads into the hills of the Nice arrière-pays. This is a rolling to hilly course with genuine climbing through the southern Alps foothills. The roads are the same ones that the full-distance IRONMAN Nice uses, showcasing the stunning Riviera countryside with its perched villages, olive groves, and mountain views. Descending skill matters on the winding descent roads.
Run Course
The run along the Promenade des Anglais is one of the most iconic in triathlon. The flat seaside boulevard with the Mediterranean on one side and the Belle Époque hotels on the other creates a setting that's hard to beat. The terrain is flat, the views are stunning, and the Nice crowds provide passionate French support.
Race Day Conditions
Late June on the Côte d'Azur offers warm, sunny conditions. Air temperatures range from 18–28°C with moderate humidity. The Mediterranean climate at this time of year is reliably warm and dry. Afternoon heat can build, particularly on the inland bike sections away from the coastal breeze.
Performance starts dropping over 22°C and humidity makes it worse. How heat compounds across the bike and run — and why the bike hides it.
