Swiss precision on Swiss roads — lake swim and Alpine foothills
Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland · June 7, 2026
IRONMAN 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona offers a quintessentially Swiss racing experience. A lake swim in the Zürichsee, a rolling bike through the Alpine foothills, and a lakeside run. The Swiss infrastructure, stunning scenery, and efficiently organised race make this a favourite among European triathletes.
Swim Course
The swim takes place in the Zürichsee — one of Switzerland's most scenic lakes. The freshwater conditions are calm and clean with excellent visibility. Water temperatures in early June hover around 18–21°C, typically wetsuit-legal. The mountain backdrop and pristine water make this one of the more idyllic swim starts on the circuit.
Bike Course
The bike course heads through the rolling countryside and Alpine foothills near Rapperswil. Swiss roads are immaculately maintained, and the course offers a scenic mix of lakeside riding and gentle to moderate climbs. This is rolling rather than mountainous, but the Swiss foothills provide enough elevation to reward climbers.
Run Course
The run follows the shores of the Zürichsee through Rapperswil-Jona. The terrain is flat to gently undulating, with lake views throughout. The medieval old town of Rapperswil provides a charming backdrop. Swiss crowds are enthusiastic and well-organised — cow bells included.
Race Day Conditions
Early June in the Swiss lowlands offers pleasant racing conditions. Air temperatures range from 14–24°C. Mountain weather can bring variability — sunshine, cloud, and the possibility of afternoon showers. The lake moderates temperatures, preventing extremes. Athletes should prepare for variable conditions but can expect generally comfortable racing.
