The Baltic gem — medieval city meets modern IRONMAN
Tallinn, Estonia · August 22, 2026
IRONMAN Tallinn brings full-distance racing to Estonia's capital — one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. A Baltic Sea swim, a flat bike through the Estonian countryside, and a city marathon. Estonia's efficient organisation and the unique charm of Tallinn's old town create a distinctive racing experience.
Swim Course
The swim takes place in the Baltic Sea near Tallinn. The Baltic offers calm, low-salinity water — almost like freshwater. Water temperatures in late August are around 18–21°C. The Estonian coastline provides a scenic but exposed swimming environment.
Bike Course
The 180 km bike course heads through the flat Estonian countryside. Estonia's terrain is predominantly low-lying, making this a fast course with minimal climbing. The roads are straight and open, and the flat landscape means wind is the primary variable. This is a course for time trialists and power riders who can hold a steady output.
Run Course
The marathon takes athletes through Tallinn's mix of medieval old town and modern city. The UNESCO-listed old town with its cobblestone streets and Gothic spires provides one of the most unique running backdrops in IRONMAN racing. The terrain is flat to gently undulating, and Estonian spectators provide warm, enthusiastic support.
Race Day Conditions
Late August in Tallinn offers comfortable racing conditions as summer begins to transition toward autumn. Air temperatures range from 14–22°C. The Baltic influence keeps conditions mild. Rain is possible, and evenings can cool quickly. This is one of the more temperature-friendly full-distance events in late season.
